Keep your kitchen clean and safe!

Maintaining order and cleanliness in the kitchen is the first step before preparing any recipe. Over time, this space has evolved to become a space where we stay more hours and, sometimes, we are not aware of the importance of cleaning and tidying this space to avoid pollution that could damage food. For this reason, it is essential to use appropriate cleaning products, ventilate well and take special with waste. If you want to maintain your kitchen clean as if it was new, do not miss the following tips from the Silestone Institute.

  • Cooking zone: The ceramic hob or the gas cooker are areas that accumulate most of the dirt from kitchen. If we have a gas cooker it is desirable to disinfect the burners with a mixture of vinegar and three tablespoons of baking soda with half a litter of water. This mix will deeply clean the cooking zone and will remove everything that hinders the gas exit. On the other hand, if you have a ceramic hob, you just need to use a special cleaning product for this type of surfaces. It is important to have a special blade to eliminate any remaining food without scratching the plate.
  • Hygiene on the countertop: Since it is the place where food is handled, it is essential to maintain this place hygienic. It is true that choosing the right product to eliminate germs is an arduous task. If the countertop is made of Silestone, a synthetic and not porous material, it is easily cleaned by water and pH neutral detergent. If it is made of wood, you should apply a specific oil every two or three months to hydrate and restore the shine. Finally, if you have chosen a modern stainless-steel countertop, you just need a cloth with detergent to rub it.
  • Ventilation of the kitchen: Nowadays, there is a trend to open kitchens and integrate them with living rooms and dining rooms. This type of design favours the expansion of smoke, strong smells and steam throughout the house. For this reason, in order to achieve natural ventilation, it is important to locate the windows near the kitchen and open them regularly. The extractor, another essential appliance from kitchen, avoids spreading smells to other rooms, so keep it on while you are cooking.
  • Controlling waste: A domestic kitchen generates around one kilo of garbage per day: organic, paper, cardboard, glass and plastics. When it comes to cooking, it is necessary to consider the good management of the waste generated, since it is a great source of contamination. The accumulation of residues can constitute a serious sanitary problem if it not properly classified. The main source of pollution is the garbage bin, where many microorganisms find the optimal conditions to settle and spread. Both, to avoid the accumulation of waste and to keep the environment safe, it is advisable to recycle. To do so in the most effective way and depending on the space of the kitchen, you can get cubes with different compartments or several cubes for a correct classification of the waste. In addition, it is important to throw the trash almost every day to maintain a clean environment in our kitchen.

Applying these simple tips, your kitchen will be in the best hygienic conditions, changing it to a healthy space for the whole family.
